Hi, Your database lists the Currawong 30 as first built in 1976. I have a Baker built Currawong built in 1972. And I think it is hull number 18. So your first built date needs some homework.

Set up and sailed similarly, the j24 is a bit faster.  As the breeze comes on they are much faster.

The J24 is generally better build quality.

There is better tuning info available for the J24, to help you get the best out of the boat.

The S525 is probably considered better looking by most people.

Interior layouts are very similar.

You ask the merits of both.  Funny you used that word, since the Merit 25 is better than both, if you can find one.

Hi all,

New guest to this site, love what I see and happy I found sailboatdata.

I am thinking of doing a little racing again and have looked at a couple boats that are of interest.

Question, does anyone have any thoughts on the merits of a j24 vs a santana525?
I would be doing small fleet racing and not one design, just around the cans for casual racing. Both boats are about the same in price and both are in good condition with 2 sets of sails and no soft spots in the fiberglass.

Thanks for any thoughts on either boat.

Mory

Both are good. Some people larger people find the J/24 a little uncomfortable on deck.

Morgan 27  > Heritage Super 27  > Chrysler 27  > TMI 27

I really don't know.. I saw Charley Morgan on my facebook page.  This might be a first question to ask him.
