Boat Type: trintella 29

« on: August 15, 2011, 02:09:54 am »

While looking for a leak below the water line on my Trintella 29, I noticed that the stern tube arrangement is loose.
That is :
The original stern gland appears to have been modified to accept a greased tube- with a remote greaser in the cock pit.
The tube that the greaser tees into is now not fixed tight and is able to turn indpendent of the prop shaft.
Unfortunatley I didn't have a camera or phone with me.
I will take some shots next week

I have not seen a shaft sealing arrangement like this before and I deal with packed gland shaft sealing every day of the week in my other business.
Does anyone have information on this type of shaft sealing - I would guess it was fitted in the 1970s.

I can show a sketch but don't seem to be able to upload it- any advice?

I now have a quite detailed and hi rez drawing of the Trintella 1A which I believe is almost identical to the boat you have. If you want it. Not that this would be much help with your particular problem, but I just thought I'd let you know. Here's a scaled down version:
