Boat Type: S2 6.8

A few additions/corrections to the S2 6.8 data listing:

The S2 6.8's were available in standard form, or you could order the optional "Exciter" package, which was a higher trim level, basically.  It included a main and 100 jib with an orange and red panel on each, a red and orange hull stripe, and the word "EXCITER" near the stern.

The boat wasn't designed by G&S, but was designed by Arthur Edmunds, N.A., and the S2 Design Group, according to a 1977 S2 price list I have.  However, I also have a blueprint of the 6.8 that is signed by Don Wennersten, N.A., who also worked for S2.

They were first produced in 1976, near as I can tell, and were in production until 1979.  (I used to own #22, a 1976 model, and I currently own #130, a 1979 model, and I've never seen a '75 or '80 6.8 on the market.)  The '79 is a 6.8 Exciter, but the '76 is a standard 6.8.

The ballast type is internal lead.  Some boats had an optional cast iron centerboard, and some did not.  All had a shoal-draft fixed keel.

Thanks for maintaining a website with so much information!

I just uploaded one of my 6.8 brochures and a price list.  Here are the URL's:

http://s2sailor.110mb.com/brochures6873.htm

http://s2sailor.110mb.com/pricelist6873.htm

I'll be uploading more brochures later, and links to them will be posted at http://s2sailor.110mb.com/boats.htm.

Hope this helps,

Excellent. Would you mind if I use some of this? (was thinking of the drawings mainly - with or without attribution, as you wish)

The only class S2 related association sites I have in my database are:
http://sail-s2.org/Home2.php
and
http://www.s291.com/

When I go to the last of your links, (http://s2sailor.110mb.com/boats.htm - was thinking that was your website)  I'm redirected to some blog that doesn't seem to have anything to do with sailboats. Maybe I'm missing something.
Let me know.

Thanks very much
