Boat Type: Hinterhoeller 27

« on: March 16, 2011, 07:12:13 pm »

We have owned a Hinterhoeller(HR)27 since 1975.
Unfortunately the Hinterhoeller website does not list a 27
ever being built. It is hull #6.I have heard that only 11
were ever produced. It is basically a blown up Shark, with
the same keel configuration, a heavy weather boat, very
solidly built. I am looking for info regarding weight, ballast,
and so on. Is anybody out there that knows about this
"oceangoing vessel"?

I only know of the HINTERHOELLER 25, shown here:
www.sailboatdata.com/VIEWRECORD.ASP?CLASS_ID=233.
which has been described as a larger version of the Shark and the HR-28
or HINTERHOELLER 28,
 http://sailboatdata.com/VIEWRECORD.ASP?CLASS_ID=5764
Is it similar to any of these?  If, in fact, there was a 27, I too, would like to learn about it.
I'll ask around a bit, but at the moment, this is all I know.

We owned the prototype of the Hinterhoeller 27, acquired in late 1962.

Very good.  So could tell us the real story?  Is it like the HINTERHOELLER 28?
Is it an entirely separate design?

My parents had friends who bought a HH28. Our HH27 was a cruising class, and not as sleek as a Shark. The hull was black, the deck white. Two portholes on each side of the main cabin and two smaller ones each side of the foreward cabin. I would have to do some digging to find specifications.

Definitely not the same. I found my father's log book and it has the following:
Length: 27'
Beam: 8'4"
Draft: 4'3"
Tank capacity: 15 gallons.
Acquired: September 1962.
