|The yard was originally founded by Fred Lawley, who was the son of George Lawley, another famous Massachusetts boat builder. As a result of financial difficulties, it was purchased by Harold Noyes and his son. Lawley was then forced to resign. The yard then was renamed Quincy Adams Yacht Yard and Ralph Richmond was brought in to manage day to day operations. The yard was located in on Palmer Street, in the Germantown section of Quincy, MA. |
Many notable yachts were launched at the yard including Noyes own Herreshoff designed Tioga, (better known as Ticonderoga), winner of numerous ocean races. The yard also built a number military craft during WWII.
