Founded by sailboat designer Tom Roland. In 1975 he launched the new company with the Nacra 5.2. The company went through several ownership and name changes over the years. They acquired the Prindle brand in 1988.
In 2007 the company was acquired by a group in the Netherlands and today operates as Nacra Sailing.
