E. W. (Skip) Etchells

1911 - 1998

American sailor, builder and designer, mostly of small racing one design craft, best known as the designer of the Etchells 22. Originally from Trenton, N.J., he studied engineering and naval architecture at the University of Michigan.
During the second world war he worked with the Navy on the west coast, and later at the design office of Sparkman & Stephens in New York.
Ethchells boat building facility was located in Connecticut. His version of the STAR and LIGHTING class were, in their day, usually seen at the head of the fleet.
