Denys Rayner
1908 - 1967
WW II naval hero, and, among many other accomplishments, developer of the 'bilge keel' type small yachts, and founder of Westerly Marine Construction Ltd. which, for a time, became Britain's most successful yacht building company. Rayner was the author of 'Escort: the Battle of the Atlantic', his recounting of his war experiences, the sailing guide books, 'Safety in Small Craft' (1961), 'Small Boat Sailing'(1962), and a number of novels.
