Hello Sailors,   We owe a 86′ CC38 MK3 with a wing keel.  I ran it aground coming in a channel in St Petersburg FL in late February…at night…should have stayed out until daylight…yes!  So please do not be critical here.  I am asking about the rudder.  Insurance paid for a new rudder that was seriously damaged.

The CC38 original keel was a fin and over 7’6″ draft.  The wing keel was designed for shoal draft and it is 5’5″ draft.

The boat yard where the boat is…I GUESS…just reached out to a company in Ontario and asked them to design a rudder for this boat.  They made the rudder 4’10”.  It is literally as long as the keel…ok maybe a few INCHES shorter.  I feel no one put their heads together here…and did NOT ask me my opinion at all!  They designed the rudder as if it was the original fin keel boat with a huge draft.

I have been trying so hard to find information about the rudder that should be put onto a wing keel for this boat.  I really need help please.  All I have is ONE picture of a CC38 MK3 that was for sale in Moorehead City over a year ago, that shows the difference in the keel vs. rudder length.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

    thanks,

    Emily

trying to attach a picture of what I found of the wing keel on the CC38 for sale that I found online. I swear…zero research was done for me and I put it in the hands of the “experts” and they did not do due diligence.

    Hi Emily, Two suggestions…

Here’s a C&C resource:http://www.cncphotoalbum.com. It looks like they have a database of 38 MK3 owners (after opening up the owners database you have to scroll all the way down to see the MK3’s). Perhaps there is some information or someone you can reach out to from there?

Also, this site has two advertisers whose business is rudders. Either one may have a template or at least knowledge of the rudder/keel relationship.

    Hope this helps.
