Hello, I’m new to the forum, and have a question about my new (to me) sailboat.

    1) It has a fixed boom, something I’m not familiar with. On all my other boats, I had a sliding gooseneck with a downhaul. Wondering if I can convert it from fixed to sliding?

    2) Mast messures 24′-9″ from fixed boom to the top of the mast, but the two mainsails that came with boat are only 19′ at the luff… so, hoisting the mainsail comes up several feet from the top of the mast. Looking for a few answers… Thanks, John in Minnesota

You need bigger sails.  In the meantime the luff tension can be set with the halyard. There is no need for a sliding gooseneck. When you get properly-sized sails they can be set up with a Cunningham. K.I.S.S.
