Lockley Newport Boats (USA)

Newport Boats, of California, in existence at least as early as 1964, was a builder of fiberglass dinghies and daysailers. They also had a factory in Gloucester, VA. The Company was purchased first, by Browning Arms, then by Elgin International. In 1976 they were purchased by Lockley Manufacturing and became Lockley Newport Boats. By 1981, for reasons unknown, the name became Gloucester Yachts, which was out of business by 1988. Some time later, former employee Harry Sindle, who had also designed a number of the boats, became associated with Cardinal Yachts, and continued to build the Buccaneer among others for a few years.
