Dieter Empacher
In 1963, Dieter Empacher came to the United States from Germany. The following year he joined Ted Hood's design team and for the next 18 years helped create some of the worlds leading offshore racing and cruising yachts. As Design Manager for Ted Hood's Little Harbor Boat Yard his responsibilities were designing, supervising construction, and training young designers. His work included such well-known yachts as the twelve meter Independence, the Canadian Cup winner Dynamite, and several of Hood's famous Robins'. Other work included custom designs for experienced yachtsmen and standard designs for quality production builders as: AMF, Bristol, Gulfstar, Hatteras, Tartan and Hinkley. Sail magazine refered to him as "one of North America's most prominent designers."
Early in 1982 Dieter opened his own yacht design and consulting firm in Marblehead, Dieter Empacher Inc. Since then his work has been with boatyards from Maine to British Columbia and with such well known companies as Hood, Dions, Bristol, Concordia and Cooper Yachts.
