Nicholas Potter

American designer who worked between the late 1920's through the late 1940's. Although he began his career working for a number of the more famous design offices in the east, he moved to California before going out on his own, which is where most of his designs were built and sailed; He has been called the 'Herreshoff of the West'. Among his best known creations were some 8 meters which became winners for the US Olympic team, and the CALIFORNIA 32, intended as a one-design class. Although, only a few of this latter design were built, they achieved a very successful racing record in west coast distance events up until the early 1960's.
