Best known as the winner of 2 gold medals for Great Britain in motor boating at the 1908 Olympics. (The only time such a sport has ever been included. His boat, 'Gyrinus II' was designed by his father and the only finisher in both Class B and C events.)
He came very close competing in a second Olympic games, this time in sailing, and attended the 1951 games at Helsinki as an alternate.
He was part of a family well known in Britain for it's achievements in both art and science.
