I bought a old Seamaster 23  cruiser bilge keel version.Problems are   the genoa seems to bit large  for comfort Furler type jib  has been torn on the leech and foot Its probably too much to buy or  fix in Ireland even if you could find any sail maker here who would fix old sails or sell second hand similar preferably 10% smaller sail .

I would like to buy if possible a few meters sail cloth and over winter fix the sail myself

however this summer pre October I need a suitable sail to transfer boat from south Ireland coast to west Ireland coast  distance ~130 ~180 nautical miles depending the winds

    Open to solutions

Dimensions of old torn are 16.6meter squared  ( prefer to get ~ 10% smaller sail)

    luff 8.282 meters

    foot  4.007 meters

    leech  8.006 meters

~Resen sails quoted  ~€645.00 and ~€65 for post  255 VAT from Denmark included

Importing from UK often makes with import tax exceed EU prices  with no import tax

I prefer to get cheaper cost  preferably second hand  from preferably Eu or UK or far east Taiwan sail prices or other sources

So any body know best sail makers for new or better sources for second hand similar sized genoa  sails  all ears   can consider to take down furler and go with hank on Geneo or even working Jib probably ~60 size colour not an issue

If the sail is already torn in two places the cloth is probably too tired to be worth fixing.  The cloth you use for your repair will be so much stronger that the patch will cause the weaker cloth near it to tear even more. Getting a”new” used sail is probably a better solution. I needed covers to keep two trailered boats dry and the local North office suggested I drop by to see them.  They had about a dozen different mains and jibs that they were eager for me to take off their hands – sails that their owners didn’t want and which were just taking up space in their loft.  It looks like North, Doyle, and UK each have lofts near Crosshaven. It might be worth a trip up there to see. Certainly worth a call.
