Redesigned and widened in 1971 by Doug Jeffkins.
Fiberglass hulls appeared in 1971, with foam sandwich from 1979.

A fin keel version was introduced a year later.

Winner of a design competition in 1964, sponsored by ‘Yachting World’ magazine for a new, high performance single handed dinghy.
TOY=’Tony’s Own Yacht’.
Enthusiasm for the Toy was soon eclipsed with the arrival of the CONTENDER, winner of the singlehanded dinghy trials, (held at Weymouth, England) just one year later.
The TOY uses a sliding seat, which was already loosing favor as a manageable hiking aid.
Class racing reportedly existed (in the UK) into the mid-1980’s.
Some were imported to US and Canada.

Based on the earlier INDIAN RIVER CLASS (1959), featuring bilge boards and designed for plywood contruction. The builder was Indian River Maritime Associates and was located at Vero Beach FL USA.
Regatta Plastics was located at 5233 Lotus St., Houston, Texas, USA.
How many of these were built is unknown. Photo has been promised.

A popular one design class for youth and adults with at least one fleet (Marblehead MA)lasting until the early 1950’s.
Original boats had a gaff rig and later changed to a sliding gunter.
One design standards were only observed within local fleets and rigs and construction details varied.
It is said that the name came from a Great Dane dog owned by the designer.
