Dafy Duck Marine, Edgartown, Mass (Martha’s Vineyard) made all the tooling (1974-75) for the Val class Newick 31, and the first eight trimarans, including Mike Birch’s “Third Turtle,” Walter Green’s “Friends,” and builder Rory Nugent’s “Edith,” all who finished (2nd, 8th and 46th [equipment problems] respectively) in the 76 OSTAR.
A popular and successful shorthanded racer of this time due to its proven seaworthiness and a relatively low cost of construction. Built from plans by many others. It is said that at least 30 boats have been built to this design.
