Rigs: Fractional Sloop
Fractional Sloop
First launched in 2003, the Shipman 50 is a new singlehanded high-performance pilothouse offshore cruiser developed by Joergen Bonde, the Danish owner of Shipman Yachts, and Jernej and Japec Jakopin of Slovenian J&J Design/Seaway. The carbon/epoxy prepreg technology was generously transferred by Bill Green of Green Marine in Lymington (UK), and the materials engineering and supply came from Giovanni Belgrano of SP Systems in Cowes (UK).
A very early, (and advanced for its time) cruising catamaran.
It is said that the original design (from an earlier builder) was appreciated more for its sailing performance than its interior amenities. In an effort to improve on the latter, the superstructure and other details underwent a number of changes over time.
A Mk II version has a masthead rig.
Pictured here is an earlier ‘day sailor’ version.
Fully retractable galvanized steel centerboard and rudder.

-Genoa: 9 m² / 96.9 ft²
-Spinnaker: 21 m² / 226 ft²

A tamer, cruising version, with masthead rig, the GIB’SEA 90, was introduced a year later.
Of both versions it said that 40 were built.

-draft: 6.07 ft / 1.85 m
-ballast: 1,500 kg / 3,307 lbs

Introduced at the Annapolis Boat show in October 2006 (model year 2007) the LAGOON 420 was advertised as ‘the first series-produced sailboat with diesel-electric drives as standard equipment’.
A number of layouts available with owner or charter versions.

Two rigs available. The RACE version comes with bigger mainsail and masthead asymmetric spinnaker (area: 21.8 m2/235 sq ft) for heavier and more experienced crews, while FUN version is equipped with smaller main and fractional gennaker.
