Commissioned by members of Loch Long Sailing Club (Scotland) to mark the coronation of George VI. Originally called CORONATION ONE DESIGN?.
Based on the STJÄRNBÅT of Norway, (with counter added).
Originally sailed on Loch Long and the Firth of Clyde.
Fleets still sailing at Cove Sailing Club and Aldeburgh Yacht Club (Scotland).
It is said that around 70 still exist.
Beam with detachable wings 2.15m/7.05′.
Spinnaker area 18.80sq m
The PIRATE is seen most often in British Columbia and used by sailing clubs and military cadets as an training dinghy.
The design is said to incorporate a FLYING JUNIOR hull with a TASAR deck and rigging.
Date is only approximate and builder is unknown at this time.
Sometimes mistaken for, but no relation to the German PIRATE DINGHY.

Said to be an adaptation of the CAPE COD KNOCKABOUT.
Not to be confused with the OSPREY dinghy, designed by Uffa Fox and built by Fairey Marine in the UK.
