Newport Offshore Yachts of California had aquired the Islander brand/name as well as many of the original molds. However this ISLANDER 27 is entirely different from the first version (1969). How many (or if any) of these were actually built is unknown.
Originally commisioned by Seaview YC. Still actively raced at Seaview and adjacent waters.
Sailed primarily in Germany. There is also a centerboard version with less displacement and sail area.
Sailed primarily in Germany. There is also a fin keel version weighing more with more sail area.

The FALCON was originally built of cold molded plywood. In 1977 the Class adopted fiberglass construction.
Sailed in the UK (Wales) mostly on the River Mersey at West Kirby SC, (25 boats) and also at Fidlers Ferry SC (10-15 boats).
Designed for the home builder. It has a slightly ballasted centerboard, and could be sailed with sloop or cat rig.
First designed for single-chined plywood construction. Based on the ZEESLANG (‘Sea Snake’ vds #58 – 1956. See drawing above). A fiberglass version was built to the same single-chined hull shape, from molds that were made off a plywood boat. Built, and seen mostly in South Africa. It is what would later be called an ULBD and decades ahead of it’s time. Despite the name, the RCOD was never actually raced as a one-design class.
