Tandem keels(centerboards). Similar to the ATALANTA 26 but with shorter cockpit. Probably named after the flying boat built by Fairy in the 1920’s.
Rigs: Fractional Sloop
Fractional Sloop
This design was submitted to Boating Magazine in 1965 as an IYRU B class doublehander. (Originally called/spelled BEELION.)
Plans were available for the home builder but most were built of Fiberglass. It’s popularity was soon eclipsed with the introduction of the TORNADO (another B class cat) a few years later.
All up weight is from original plans.
A series of articles appears in ‘Popular Boating’, July, 1965, from both a builder and the designers covering the design process and building instructions for amateurs.
Some boats were delivered with a masthead rig.
AKA STATUS 19.
Derived from the earlier, plywood SPANKER design.
A later version from the same builder with a cabin was called the SLIPSTREAM.
Single handed keelboat seen mostly in Germany.
The above displacement and ballast were reported by Klepper in 1976. Current class association reports a displacement of 640 kg and a ballast of 270 kg.
