What can one use on the hull of a sailboat to reduce drag…is there a compound or a wax-type product? I see Laser sailors rubbing something on their hulls before a race…Does anyone know what this is?

It depends on the condition of the hull. If it’s polished, some sailors will just use soap and water and then maybe some McLube polish. If there are scratches, wet sand first with 400, then 600, then 1200 if you really want to work on it.
Most people believe waxing the bottom actually slows the boat because it doesn’t allow water to attach to the hull so we don’t know too many sailors who do that.
