Anyone who needs to rig an SS sailboats can use these guidelines for ropes:
- Main sheet – 3/8 in. diameter rope, 50 feet;
- Jib sheets, 1/4 in. or 5/16 in diameter rope, 24 feet (12 ft. each side);
- Gaff peak halyard, 1/4 in. diameter rope, 40 feet;
- Gaff throat halyard, 1/4 in. diameter rope, 32 feet;
- Jib halyard, 1/4 in. diameter rope, 40 feet;
- Spinnaker halyard, 1/4 in. diameter rope, 30 feet;
The double-braided polyester, or dacron cords seem to hold up the longest over time, and all weather conditions.
