First conceived as a cat rigged single-hander, Paul Elvstrom soon changed the design to become a 2 man sloop and it had a brief production run as such.
The photo (above) shows Elvstrom sailing the first TRAPEZ at the IYRU trails (for a new single-handed dinghy) held at Weymouth (UK) in 1965. Though clearly the fastest of the new boats in the fleet, it failed to gain support, partly because of its complexity. (The fact that Elvstrom sailed the boat himself may have actually hurt the boats prospects since many believed that anything sailed by him would end up a winner on the race course.)

Originally called the PUFFIN PACER after the builder that first commissioned the design. (Puffin Paints and Glues in the UK). In the mid 1970’s it was renamed PACER in the UK, with Australia following suit some years later.
Triple chine hull originally intended to be built of plywood using the ‘stitch and glue’ method, but also available in fiberglass.

Wildflower with a lateen rig was called a Mayflower.

The SWIFT 18 was originally designed for aluminum contruction. This proved to be impractical so molds were made, and all boats after the prototype were built of fiberglass. There have been a number of different builders and a number of variations in rig and other details.
