October 12, 2025 at 6:20 am in reply to: Hi all, newbie here, I’m trying to identify the make and model of a sail boat, #92424
Bruce_SailboatdataKeymasterAdding a photo is pretty straight forward. If it’s not working, maybe the file size is too big? It has to be under 2 MB.
Bruce_SailboatdataKeymasterThe site is designed to help narrow your search. To find models that perform well in light air, go to Refine Search and input the parameters which best suit you. In SA/D you might want something higher than 18 or 20. Something lower than 275 might work in Disp/Len. Use whatever numbers you feel most comfortable with. Then tweak where desired.
You can also use the Calculator page to see how something like a tall rig can effect the performance of individual models.
Then, if you want, create a Favorites page (registration is required for this) to easily review the boats that are of real interest.
You can also include length and year built in your search. Sorry, we do not have the ability to search by the number of cabins though.
Hope this helps.
Bruce_SailboatdataKeymasterHi Iris,
We added the International Class Association to the database. Anyone interested can access any individual country’s association from there.
Separately, we also added the German Association. 🙂
Both can be found in either the Associations menu or in the Sailboat Links box on the VX One record.
Bruce_SailboatdataKeymasterHi Iris,
We updated the sail area for the VX ONE.
Regarding ballast, according to the ICA rule E.4.2, the keel assembly comprising bulb, fin, top plate and the bolts to fix the top plate to the fin has a minimum weight of 60 kg / 132.3 lbs; Maximum weight is 76 kg / 167.5 lbs. We updated the record showing the max and added additional information in the Notes section.
Finally we added Roger Martin to the designers.
Thanks for reaching out.
Bruce_SailboatdataKeymasterIf you haven’t already done so, you might want to try the Catalina 25 International Association: https://www.catalina-capri-25s.org
Someone there should have the information you are looking for.
Bruce_SailboatdataKeymasterThanks for the heads-up on our error. We have adjusted the LOA to 11′ 6″ (11.5 ft). We also adjusted the displacement to 160 lbs. Interestingly, in looking into this, we found a Hobie brochure from 1977 calling the boat the Hobie 11.
Bruce_SailboatdataKeymasterPlease email me. From the blue main menu bar: About/Contact. Thanks.
Bruce_SailboatdataKeymasterWe have an IMX-45 builder’s brochure listing the E as 6.2. Not a significant difference from what you sent but definitely different from the 7.52 we were reporting. We have updated our record based on the information reported in the brochure.
Thanks.
Bruce_SailboatdataKeymasterThanks for your info. We believe you are correct and that Catalina ended production of the 25 in 1990. We’ve updated our record in that regard. The number built is another issue. Looking into this, we found Practical Sailor’s review of the C25 reports 5,332 hulls. We also know that hulls and sail numbers are often different and not always sequential. Could you share your HIN? If the serial number portion of your HIN matches your sail number that would be a good indicator.
Bruce_SailboatdataKeymasterNo mimimum comments required, just being logged in. It looks like you have added a new topic regarding rigging photos (etc) for a Northern 29. We’re not sure why things didn’t work initially but whatever it was seems to have resolved itself. Correct?
Bruce_SailboatdataKeymasterOptions for the Puffer included “automatic bailer” so it depends on the boat.

Bruce_SailboatdataKeymasterWe do not have the measurements but can tell you the Force 5 sail will be too big for your Topper. The Force 5 is a bigger boat with a main reported to be 91 sqft vs the Topper at 57 sqft. (there are actually three sizes for the Topper, there is also a 45 and a 69 sqft main).
Cutting the sail to make it smaller is an option but is not as simple as it may appear and not usually recommended.
Bruce_SailboatdataKeymasterThat looks like the insignia for the Pioneer 17 sailboat built by Sailstar (https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/pioneer-17-sailstar/).
Similar to Sailstar’s Explorer. Unfortunately, we do not have any information other than what we are reporting. Including who supplied the mast to Sailstar (assuming it was a third party).
Bruce_SailboatdataKeymasterWe found some information on the Finnsailer 30 and have added a record. You can find it here: https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/finnsailer-30/
Bruce_SailboatdataKeymasterI understand Sverre Reinke, Kurt’s grandson, might be selling the plans. Not sure how to get in touch with him though.
There’s also a Reinke Facebook page, Maybe someone there can help? https://www.facebook.com/groups/697142520443115/
Here’s an article with some general information (but no contact info): https://www.yacht.de/en/shipyards/yacht-building-third-generation-plans-revival-of-reinke-yachts/
Hope this helps. -
