Apologies to allenmedia but I have to correct the record regarding HIN’s (Hull Id Numbers). The format is as follows… All boats manufactured or imported after November 1, 1972 must have a HIN. HIN’s are 12 digits. The first three letters are the manufacture’s code (MIC). For example, the MIC for Dockrell Yachts in the US is JLD. The next five digits are the boat’s serial number. The serial number is determined by the manufacturer and can be anything but often contains the boat’s hull number. The final four digits indicate the date of manufacture and the model year. The format for displaying the date changed in August 1984. In the example above, M82H indicates a model year ’82 manufactured in March (it’s actually the H that indicates the boat was built in March, not the M).
If this boat had been built in March 1985, after the format change, the final four digits would be C585 (March ’85, model year ’85). On the other hand, the same boat manufactured in November 1984 would end in K485 (November ’84, model year ’85).
Hope this helps clarify HIN formats.

Sorry we can’t help. One suggestion, if you have not already done so, would be to try contacting someone at the Dockrell Owner’s Association: http://www.dockrell.com

in reply to: 1978 J-32 I know very little and information #85720

Hello Kevin. Please double check your info. J Boats built the J/32 from 1996 – 2003.
Overall, J Boats has a solid reputation for boat building. That said, over the years, bad things can happen. In our opinion, the only way to be sure the boat in question is worth buying is to have it surveyed.
    Hope this helps.

I’m not aware that there is a legal limit on number of persons for the boat in question. Load capacity deals in weight, not numbers. This means adding four people weighing 250 lbs will have the same effect as adding 7 people weighing 145 (in this example, lowering the boat in the water about one inch).
The only legal issue I’m aware of regarding passengers and crew is that you need a PFD (life preserver) on board for each person (there might be other legal issues if you are planning on charging your passengers).
    Hope this helps.

in reply to: Keel ballast material and Attachment Method #85709

Hello Donald, We already add ballast material when we know it. We have not added the attachment method although doing that is something we could try going forward.
    Thanks for reaching out.

Hi David. You might have seen this already but all we have is here: https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/fletan-beneteau

in reply to: Catalina 34 MKI wing keel #85626

Thanks for the “heads up!” We have updated the record.
Since the winged keel wasn’t introduced until ca 1980, we added the draft information in the Notes section.

Hello Martin, Thanks for the heads-up. While the interior drawings were correct, we had the wrong hull/sail plan drawing. We have updated the record.

Hi Ayoze. Thank you for send us this drawing of the Jeanneau Flirt. We’ve added it to our boat record.

in reply to: Johnson Sail Boat #85552

Sorry, we can’t help you with a manual. We have created a record with the basic specs… https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/johnson-daysailer-16

If you can read the HIN, which should be on the upper right corner of the transom, you will find the build date.

    Hope this helps.

in reply to: Hardin 44/45 PY EY #85514

Hello Mike, We’ve taken a second look at this but have not found the reported PY and EY measurements yet. That said, the reported sail area of 809 sq ft appears to be 103 sq ft greater than the I, J, P, E measurement of 706 sq ft. Perhaps that’s the mizzen?

in reply to: Sun odyssey 42.2 (jeanneau) #85512

Hello Oliver, Thanks for letting us know about the SO 42.2. We’ve taken a look and agree that the 42.2 has a spade rudder without a partial keg. We have not been able to locate a drawing that includes the keel and rudder but we saw some photos and have removed the drawing we had on the 42.2 record, which we now believe is the drawing for a Sun Odyssey 42 (1990-1992).
